Keep Up To Date: Finding the trends of 2017

Trends are constantly changing, year to year, season to season and sometimes day to day. It's important to keep an open mind to emerging trends as well, as take on board where you can incorporate these changes into your brand to grow and encourage sales.

Colours

Colours

There are various places on the web that can help you out with trending colours.
Here are a few places to start searching:

Elle Decor
Even though this is primarily for interior design, industries do merge with trends and take from each other.

Dulux
Dulux is a leading manufacturer of paint and has a good knowledge of what colours will be upcoming and sell.

Pinterest
Pinterest in brilliant because it's run by us. And trends happen because of us! It's a great place to start and
if you keep an eye on it, you will see the 2017 trends that are appearing month on month.

Patterns and Shapes

Product

Patterns and shapes are so important to influencing the trends of fashion, jewellery and even packaging.
Some great sources to look at are:

Fashionisers
They focus mostly on fashion patterns, but the trends will continue to influence jewellery, packaging,
accessories and more.

Instagram
Instagram is such a strong tool to monitor. 500 million monthly users post trend-setting snaps constantly.

Individual sectors

Sectors

Different sectors of business will have their own influencers but inevitably, everything always leads to everything.
Different sectors will have trends that merge into one another. Ultimately, it's being able to take
the trends from your industry whilst looking at upcoming trends from other industries and creatively constructing
a brilliant idea to suit your business.

Some great ideas to look at for some specific industries are:

Jewellery: Vogue, Jewellery Trends, Telegraph, Jewellery Focus
Photography: Photodirect, Flatworld, Couture (Wedding), Digital Arts
Food: The Food People, Huffington Post, Evening Standard, Bake
Stationery: Stationery Trends, London Stationery Show, Wedding Ideas (Wedding Stationery), WHSmith
Weddings: Hitched, Brides, Bickley Mill, Green Union, Metro, Festival Brides
Retail: Shopify, Forbes, CIO, Edited

Remember to keep an eye on social media. Social is such a strong platform to source and trial ideas.

So how will the 2017 trends affect packaging?
Well, from what we have learnt so far with the trends from each industry, packaging seems to be taking a similar turn on
colours and patterns, but what seems to be most prominent is the introduction of more texture.
Packaging should be an experience and the texture contributes to the sensory elements.

Trends will continue to emerge and change and sometimes even contradict each other, so the most important thing,
as a business, is to ensure your customers are happy with what you are producing and new ideas you have.
Always get as much feedback as possible to ensure your target market is fulfilled.
