When thinking of the best Christmas gifts to give friends and family this year, also bear in mind planet Earth and think ecologically when making your choices.  Here are some suggestions of what to buy and how to wrap that gift, so it will not only thrill the recipient, but also make a difference in this world.

Give a Gift

For those friends and family members who already seem to have everything, there are many charitable websites online where you can give a gift, while helping the environment or the poor of this world.  Adopt a wolf for your cousin, or donate solar lights to people in Africa, for example. Whichever you choose, while your recipient may only receive a scrap of paper telling them of the donation, their heart will be warmed by the gesture.

Recyclable Wrapping

While a virtual gift like the above doesn’t need packaging, consider the environment when wrapping up and decorating the gifts that you buy.  Use only recycled gift paper, bags and boxes to wrap up those gifts, and attractive, eco-friendly and naturally-produced ribbons to tie them off for a perfect finishing touch.  Below are some natural and eco-friendly suggestions for the gifts themselves.

Go Organic

Going organic is something the whole world is talking about these days.  What used to be normal and natural, these days tends to be chockfull of chemicals, so organic gifts are a great and healthy choice. Buy the chef of the family an instant herb starter kit for the kitchen or a “grow your own mushrooms” box, knowing the contents will be healthy and fresh when ready to harvest.

For that lovely young lady in the family and for mum, treat her to an organic beauty gift set, with naturally-produced make up items, bath products, healthy creams and lotions.

The foodies of the family will enjoy a box of good organic and Fair Trade olive oil, or tasty homemade jams and marmalades, or maybe a couple of bottles of an excellent organic wine to tipple in the New Year.

Caffeine addicts and coffee gourmets will enjoy a package of fragrant, organic and Fair Trade coffee, packaged with a fun coffee mug.  Those who prefer to lift the pinky with a good cup of tea will appreciate a gift of tasty and healthy organic teas.

Buy from Charities

When it comes to basic human rights, Amnesty International does so much good for people worldwide.  Why not give them a helping hand by shopping in their online store?  They offer a range of clothing items, jewellery, Fair Trade coffees and teas, calendars, books and so much more.  Even better, by making purchases in their store, your donation not only helps Amnesty International in their causes, but also gives back to the environment and to the needy people overseas who produced those gifts.

Everything on offer in the store is either organic, recycled, fair trade or eco friendly.  It is nice to note that you can also buy your Christmas cards and Advent Calendar from their store, or if you are a little artistic yourself, why not make your own this year (from recycled products of course).

Dont Forget to Decorate!

Whatever you do end up buying this year, choose wisely, wrap them well and add a great big shiny ribbon.  Protecting both the environment and the rights of the people living on Mother Earth is a worthy cause indeed and will give much joy around the Christmas tree this year.
