10 New Year's Resolutions To Help The Environment

Our of the most important messages here at Tiny Box is keeping as eco-friendly as we can, whether that is giving damaged
or old stock to charities or schools, or ensuring we recycle as much staff waste as possible.
We have put together 10 easy things that you can do to help the environment as part of your new year’s resolution.
As we say here at Tiny Box "Individually we can't change the world, but together we can make a tiny difference".

Face Cloth
1.    Use a cleansing sponge or cloth for cleansing your face, instead of disposable cotton wool pads.

Bag for life
2.  Get a fold up shopping bag to live in your handbag/manbag/glove box, so you don’t end up buying a new “bag for life”
every time you hit the supermarket.

3. At the end of the day, be sure to turn your computer and monitor off, not leave it sleeping as it's always sucking up energy.

4. Eat Less Meat - good quality meat can be expensive and is not good for the environment. 70% of the Amazon rainforest has been
destroyed to raise cows and produce palm oil. What's more, carbon emissions for the production of
meat is higher than any other protein. You don't need to go completely vegan but learning some
vegetarian recipes will save money and will be helping the planet.

5. Eliminate disposable cookware - by using less plastic cutlery and plates and more china and long lasting cookware, you can not only help the environment
by saving on landfill and plastics but help re-design your kitchen and style!

6. Reduce your shower time - even though we all love a long hot shower, reducing your shower even by just a few minutes will save around a
thousand gallons of water per year. This will help save on your water bills and benefit the planet.

7. Energy efficient lighting - by changing those old light bulbs and replacing them with energy efficient ones, you can save on your electricity bills.
They will last much longer and help the earth.

8. Defrost your freezer - did you know a 4mm coat of ice on your freezer can double it's energy consumption?
By cleaning out your freezer regularly you can save half the money and help the planet.

9. Think before your spring clean - have a think before throwing anything away, recycle clothes, toys or homeware. Most charity shops are grateful for
anything you can give (in decent quality) or use council service to find out where you can recycle large household objects.
Sites such as freecycle.org have communities of people that are looking for donated homeware and clothing. You can support your community and reduce landfill.

10. Only print what is necessary - when at work or home, try and only print what is absolutely necessary and print both sides of the paper to save paper usage,
whilst recycling as much of the paper that you do use. You can also add useful signatures to your emails to encourage others to not print and to recycle.
Such as this one here which we use:
