Tiny Box Company presents
Battle of the Beach Cleans

In aid of Great British Beach Clean Week, we're organising our very own clean up operation at Brighton Beach.

Great British Beach Clean week runs from Friday 17th - Sunday 26th September 2021. The week is a citizen scientific event where hundreds of beach cleans take place in order to analyse (and clear up!) the litter that’s accumulated on our beaches.

Litter data is more important than you may realise, it’s integral for backing up campaigns for change. Successful campaigns include introducing the plastic bag charge, banning microplastics in personal care items, better wet wipe labelling, and supporting a tax on single use plastic products.

On Saturday 25th September, we’re hosting our very own beach clean starting at Brighton West Pier and working our way towards Brighton Palace Pier.

We're calling it 'Battle of the Beach Cleans'.

WHAT DO I NEED TO KNOW?

Battle of the Beach Cleans - does what it says on the tin!
We need two teams to help us clean the beach on Saturday 25th September.
The race to collect the most litter starts at 10am and we’ll announce the winning team later in the day.

But wait!
The beach clean activities don’t stop there! We’re also teaming up with some big names in the industry to offer some insightful talks throughout the day.

Watch this space for the annoucement of our special guests!

EXTRA INFO

What to bring: We’d recommend you pack a rucksack with a few essentials like sunscreen, waterproofs, hand sanitiser, and perhaps some snacks and a drink (in a reusable bottle, of course).
A small amount of picking tools will be supplied for your use, but we highly suggest you bring your own picking tool should you wish to use one.

What to wear: If you're picking up litter with your hands it's highly recommended to wear a strong pair of gloves - like gardening gloves - just to make sure you're protected. Sturdy shoes are a must for protection too - please dress for the weather, we may be on a beach but it's no holiday!

Under 16s: To comply with our insurance, volunteers under 16 will need to be accompanied by an adult who will be asked to sign a parental / guardian consent form on the day by the beach clean organiser.
